Making an Impact for Giving Tuesday!

Can you believe the holidays are already right around the corner? It’s easy to get caught up in the festive rush of Christmas shopping and the addicting buzz of Black Friday deals. But as fun as these things are, don’t forget about one of the biggest opportunities of the year to make a huge difference with where you choose to spend your money.
Giving Tuesday falls on November 23rd this year, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (and after the craziness of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, of course). The philanthropic day began as an initiative to encourage giving back after the overload of consumption the weeks before.
Giving Tuesday started in 2012, by the team at Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact and is entering its 7th and biggest year yet. Primarily driven by social media and collaboration, consumers can choose a charity, non-profit, or social enterprise of their choice to donate to or shop from in an effort to support the good that they’re doing in the world. Some socially minded brands offer discounts on this day, but the goal is for people to join in without expectation of a deal, simply out of a desire to give back.
Although Black Friday and Cyber Monday can be awesome ways to save money, Giving Tuesday wins the week for its selfless and outward-focused nature.
What does this have to do with us, you might ask? Although we’ve loved joining in Giving Tuesday before, this year marks a huge step for us that will allow for your donations to go even further! After several years and a long process of approval, we are so proud ro announce that Kurandza recently became a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization (YAY)!
This certification means a lot of things, but perhaps most excitingly, it means that contributions are tax deductible at the end of the year. Now, not only does your donation go a long way for supporting girls’ education and improving the lives of communities in Mozambique, but you’re rewarded for donating with a tax write-off. Win, win, win!
Are you wondering how you can get involved? We came up with a few ways you can easily support your favorite conscious organizations (and yes, Kurandza would be honored to make your list!) this Giving Tuesday.
1. Donate Directly to the Website
You can easily make a one-time donation to Kurandza’s work right here! These funds go directly to our education and other programs in Mozambique, which means your money goes a long way in making a difference. You’ll get to participate in the joy of Giving Tuesday, help girls in Mozambique, AND get a tax write-off at the end of the year!
2. Start a Facebook Fundraiser
Instead of a one-time donation, why not consider getting your friends and family involved too? As part of our 501(c)3 status, we’re now able to participate in these easy to organize social media fundraisers that have the potential for huge impact. We could participate in these fundraisers before and we’re so excited for the increased potential for new supporters! 3. Shop on Amazon with Amazon Smile
Yep, you can do your Christmas shopping AND give back. The Amazon Smile program allows shoppers to automatically donate a portion of their purchase to the charity of their choice - how amazing is that? All you have to do is shop via smile.amazon.com and add the charity that you’d like to support. Then, shop for all of your gift giving needs. It’s as easy as that. Since our new 501(c)3 status was approved, we can participate in Amazon Smile and we’re so happy! 4. Check with Your Employer’s Policy on Matching Donations
Some companies have established corporate gift matching programs which means that if their employees choose to donate via this program, their money is matched by the company! Not only does this allow you to literally double the impact of your donation, but you’ll be able to spread the word of our work in Mozambique with your company too.
