The girls received Bibles and are so excited!

We couldn’t be more excited to share With you

The launch of the new initiative giving girls access to Bibles and the impact it will have on the lives of every girl as well as each person in her world! We are excited to share all the details with you!

We held two Bible distribution events in response to the community request for Bibles. On June 2nd, as part of our Dia da Criança celebrations, we distributed Children’s Bibles to the younger girls at our partner preschool in Xai Xai, following the distribution event for the primary and secondary school girls in May. The two events were filled with so much joy, as both children and parents or guardians were excited and grateful for the opportunity for each child to receive a Bible of their own.

The purpose of this program

We believe that every person deserves to lead a dignified life, to be treated with kindness and to be shown love. Kurandza means “to love” and it is our hope that through this new program every girl will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that she is loved. We wanted to create space for love to grow in the lives of the girls and their communities, but also for them to grow in their understanding of Christ’s love for them!

The communities in Southern Mozambique are predominantly Christian, and educational costs are challenging for families, being able to receive something as simple as a Bible is not only a gift to the children but a prayer answered for parents. Every parent whose child received a Bible was so thrilled about the impact that studying the Bible under the guidance of a local facilitator will have.

Through their participation in the Bible Studies and Discipleship Program, the girls will learn about God and have space to explore questions about their faith. It will also be a fun time for them to grow together in community, uplifting one another, connecting with each other, and living peaceably with others. The girls will additionally continue to develop their reading skills as they spend time studying together.

The impact we’re already seeing

We have already seen the impact that the Bible Studies and Discipleship Program will have in the girls’ lives!

Meet Abigail

Abigail, a 3-year-old student at our partner preschool, who you met HERE, couldn't contain her joy when she received her Children’s Bible at the distribution event in Xai Xai. She may not have had much to say but these photos speak for themselves!

Meet Yvanilde

Seeing 5-year-old Yvanilde receive her Bible at the event in Xai Xai was one of many highlights of the day! Usually she’s very shy, however on this day, she ran to get her mother so that she could show off her reading skills by practicing some Scriptures with Mariazinha, Kurandza’s Head of Programs. Yvanilde’s confidence is growing as she now has a space to explore her faith along with other girls, and we’re looking forward to seeing how this simple gift of receiving a Bible continues to have a positive impact on her and the other children’s lives.

Meet Neliana

6-year-old Neliana who loves school and loves to read will get to practice her reading with her grandmother at home. She made sure that Mariazinha, our Head of Programs, knew that she would be receiving a call to hear the progress she has made practicing!

Thank you

We want to thank Rachael and Justin of Olive Us for their incredible generosity in donating Bibles for all 250 girls to read and study as they go on their faith journey! Olive Us is a collection of everyday women of faith who recount their stories to remember the goodness and faithfulness of God. Visit them HERE to learn more about the amazing work they are doing.

With the incredible generosity of our community of donors we were also able to fund an additional 5 Bibles for the boys in our program so that everyone got to receive a gift.

Journey with us

We love how excited the Kurandza community was when we first announced the Bible Studies and Discipleship Program! We couldn't do this without you. We would love for you to join us in praying for every girl, her family, and their facilitator as she studies her Bible and sharpens her reading skills.

We invite you to share a prayer in the comments or send us an email. We know that the girls (and boys) would love to hear from you!
